David Dunaway specialises in cosmetic surgery and reconstructive craniofacial surgery from Portland Hospital (London) says: "Deformation of maxillary arches usually causes problems with articulation. There are can be other possible violations. It can be also caused by backwardness. I propose to make Alex a full examination with CT head/neck scan and speech therapist consultation before the operation can be done."
Lyosha's operation at the Portland Hospital in London was a success. The boy had skin taken from his neck grafted onto his lower eyelids. He also had an operation on the lower part of his jaw to restore its proper functioning. As a result of this, Lyosha is now able to open his mouth and eat solid food, whereas before he had to be fed using a drinking straw. Lyosha is now feeling well.
Rusfond (rusfond.ru) helped to raise the necessary funds for treatment.
